Certified Organic Vegetables & Bulk Food Options

Since Homesteader Health Foods’ humble beginning over 25 years ago, we’ve expanded to bring our healthy, vibrant and organic produce to all our locations. At Homesteader Health Foods, we LOVE “produce day.” Once a week we have the pleasure of unpacking a truckload of certified organic fruit and vegetables and displaying them with pride in our coolers. We take great care making sure our vegetables are watered and rotated throughout the day, and covered and brought back into storage at night. As we only get these goodies once per week, we want to make sure that whatever hasn’t been enjoyed is still fresh and crisp.

A Rainbow of Healthy Choices

Our stores are stocked with a rainbow of delicious fruits and vegetables, including:

  • Lettuce
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Radishes
  • Celery
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Beans
  • Peas
  • Avocados
  • Sprouts
  • Potatoes
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Grapefruit
  • Grapes
  • Pears

One of the hallmarks of a good diet is variety. That’s why we are always introducing new choices for our guests, and we’re always excited to introduce seasonal vegetables into our stock. We’re also open to suggestions and feedback, so if there is something you miss, you want more of, or you’re interested in trying for the first time, let us know and we’ll try to stock it for you! Also, if you’re interested in a crate of apples, a sack of potatoes or a heap of spinach, lets us know so we can put together a special order for you.

We Have a Large Selection of Natural and Certified Organic Options

A large portion of the food we stock is certified organic. This means that the growing and processing of the food has met strict standards in order to maintain healthy people and healthy ecosystems. A certified organic product is:

  • GMO free
  • Pesticide free
  • Free of harmful chemicals

We also proudly offer free range animal products! A free range farm animal is allowed to roam freely outdoors for part of the day, instead of being confined in an enclosure 24 hours each day. So, what does free range and organic mean for you? It means the food you get from our store is going to be of the highest quality and isn’t going to undermine your health with harsh chemical, preservatives and pesticides. As an added bonus, what’s good for you is also good for the earth! Certified organic products will lighten the load we place on our big blue planet. We carry a large selection of natural and organic groceries to accommodate your tastes, while giving you great options for healthy eating.

Gluten Free Options

Many people’s diets are restricted due to wheat allergies, sensitivities, and conditions such as celiac disease. At Homesteader Health Foods, we’re here to help anyone who may have been diagnosed with any of the above, or is suspicious that gluten may be causing a reaction to their body, or simply wishes to lower the amount of gluten in their diet. We want all of our guests to have delicious and healthy choices when shopping for groceries, and that’s why we stock some common staples that are made without gluten, including:

  • Breads
  • Baking mixes
  • Cookies
  • Bars
  • Snacks
  • Cereals

We also carry lots of scrumptious whole foods that are gluten free. If you have questions about our products, our friendly staff will be happy to help!

Reduce Unnecessary Packaging with Bulk Buying

Bulk food is a great way to purchase groceries because you can purchase the exact amount of an item you need, whether it’s just a little bit to try out in a recipe or a full sack for long-term use. In either case, you pay the same price. As an added bonus, buying bulk food greatly reduces the amount of unnecessary packaging that often ends up in landfills. We strive to stock as many of the most popular bulk items in bins, including:

  • Rice
  • Oats and other whole grains
  • Split peas
  • Lentils
  • Beans and other legumes
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Raisins
  • And much more

Due to limited space we can’t stock everything in our bulk bins, and so lots of other bulk items are stocked in a variety of sizes - from 50g re-sealable bags up to 20 lb sacks of grains or flours - in plain, modest and inexpensive packaging. This includes:

  • Many types of whole grains
  • Flours
  • Baking soda
  • Powders
  • Thickening agents
  • Sweeteners
  • Dried fruit
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Candy
  • And more

Of course, as with our produce, we realize that we can’t please everybody with what is in the store, but that doesn’t mean we don’t aim to despite that. If you have a special request that you don’t see on the shelf, or you require a very large quantity of a specific good, we can add your order to our next shipment of bulk items. So, give us a call today to set up an order!
